Refrigerator Facials for Every Skin Type

Dr. Laszlo was quite a visionary in his time and was forever being featured in magazine and newspaper articles sharing beauty tips and advice. This article is from a local New York newspaper and in it Dr. Laszlo outlines simple remedies found in everyone's "icebox" (that's refrigerator for those of us born in the last century). Below, are the natural do-it-yourself tips separated by skin type:

For Normal Skin:
"Drink a glass of orange juice with the juice of half a lemon every morning when you get up. Grate two turnips, let 'em stand half an hour, add three tablespoons of melted butter, and apply the paste to your clean face. Leave it on a couple of minutes, then wash off. Before going to bed, dip dampened cotton into the juice of a lemon and wash your face."

For Dry Skin:
"Use milk. If your complexion is so dry you think it might hold some sort of record, melt three tablespoons of butter in one cup of warm milk, apply with cotton and leave on half an hour."

For Oily Skin:
"Cucumber juice is the standby for oily skin. Add a pinch of camphor ice to discourage blackheads. Extremely oily skin calls for the addition of a half teaspoonful of bicarbonate of soda in with the cucumber juice."

Audrey Hepburn's Beauty Routine

In her new book, How to be Adored: A Girl's guide to Hollywood Glamour, Caroline Cox has identified Erno Laszlo as the secret beauty essential of Miss Audrey Hepburn. In her section, called "How to Wash Your Face Like Audrey Hepburn", she calls Audrey's routine, "low maintenance and minimal - but with a discreet touch of deluxe." It should not be any surprise that this "touch of deluxe" the author speaks of is our very own Black Sea Mud Soap. It is true that Audrey was a personal client of Dr. Laszlo's and was even known to have said, "I owe 50% of my beauty to my mother and the other 50% to Erno Laszlo." Not bad coming from the recently anointed, "Most Beautiful Woman of All Time."

You can get your own copy of the book here, for more beauty advice and celebrity glamour! To try your hand at Audrey's ritual today, use our Sea Mud Soap and following the Laszlo Splashing Technique below:

August is National Water Quality Month

The ability to use clean water daily is an integral assumption which discussing the effectiveness of the splashing technique and the Erno Laszlo ritual. In fact, Dr. Laszlo was quoted as saying, "If water did not exist, as a cosmetologist I would have to invent it." Thus, we feel it's important to note that August is National Water Quality Month.

It is a federal law that each year, by July 1st, every homeowner must be sent a Consumer Confidence Report detailing the types and amounts of the contaminants found in your local water supply in the past calendar year. Some of the more common contaminants include:

* microbes
* radionuclides (radioactive minerals)
* inorganic contaminants
* cryptosporidium
* giardia
* arsenic
* lead
* benzene
* uranium

Although some of the items on that list may sound frightening, at low levels, their presence in your water is not threatening. However, it is in the spirit of responsible home-ownership that they should be monitored. Of course, if you rent, you are still entitled to the same information. Ask your landlord for a copy of the report, or search for it on the internet/in the local newspaper.

Finally, it is important to note that although you are entitled to information regarding the last calendar year, it is up to you to test the current cleanliness of your water. The report should be used as a jumping-off point to determine if testing should be warranted.
