Mood Boosting Scents

Did you know that getting yourself out of a funk could be as easy as taking an inhale? Well it is true! The area of our brain that processes smell is linked with the area that processes emotion, and so smelling something good can actually boost your mood. However, not all smells have this affect, so the following is an outline of some smells that are pleasant to the nose and your spirit!

Peppermint: This scent is said to stimulate the part of your brain that controls wakefulness and so a good whiff of this can have you feeling more alert on sluggish day. Beauty Tip: Peppermint also possesses amazing antibacterial properties - we use it in our Beta Mask.

Lavender: If you want the opposite affect of peppermint, lavender is the choice for you as it has been proven to calm the brain and offer serenity in a busy world. Beauty Tip: Lavender is used in our TranspHuse Night Serum to calm the senses before bedtime.

Citrus: The bright, uplifting scent of citrus fruits are commonly associated with happy memories and can easily brighten your day.
Beauty Tip: Wake-up with a smile on your face by using our C-Peel first thing in the morning, it's gentle exfoliation and uplifting orange scent will send you sailing into your day.

Happy Birthday Greta Garbo!

Tomorrow, September 18th, marks the birth of the great Greta Garbo, a Hollywood legend and another of Dr. Laszlo's famous devotees. Born in Stockholm Sweden in 1905, she would go on to become one of the most recognizable stars of her time and capture the public's attention until her death in 1990.
Her introduction to Dr. Laszlo at his Institute of Fifth Avenue in 1940 became a newsworthy event, as it was said to be her first beauty treatment of her life. Still a stunning beauty at the age of 35, one reporter wrote of the event, "Miss Garbo wanted Dr. Laszlo to approve upon the work of nature."

Dr. Laszlo soon joined the legions of adoring fans but with time, he also became a close confidant and friend to the actress. At the time of her first appointment, she asked for assistance with her dry skin. Despite this request for help and his adage that everyone must work at their beauty, he seemed to be in the company that Greta Garbo was as close to a perfect specimen as possible. He once wrote, "With the possible exception of Greta Garbo, I know no woman who possesses all the attributes of physical beauty."

If you want to try an original Dr. Laszlo product for dry skin that would have been offered to Greta Garbo, try out our Active pHelityl Cream, a fabulous, moisturizing night cream perfect for colder months. Below is a clipping from the famed gossip columnist Walter Winchell discussing Greta Garbo's first visit to the Erno Laszlo Institute.

Ingredient Spotlight: Emu Oil

The emu is native to Australia

The benefits of Emu Oil have been known since the times of the Aborigines in Australia. They used it as bush medicine to treat a variety of conditions, such as sunburns, wounds, muscle pain, irritation, and arthritis. Today, emu oil is used as an ingredient in many cosmetics for the same reasons - Erno Laszlo uses it in our magical phormula 3-9 products. Studies, however, have uncovered many additional therapeutic uses for emu oil.

One of the main reasons that emu oil is so fantastically effective is that its chemical composition is very similar to that of human skin. This allows it to be easily absorbed through pores into the deepest layers of skin, ensuring that it will be able to nourish at every level.

Additionally, emu oil has been proven useful in fighting acne. It is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory, which means it will work to kill the bacteria that causes acne in the first place, and soothe to reduce the swelling it causes in turn. Emu Oil also contains naturally abundant levels of Vitamins A and E. These act both as free-radical fighting, toxin-removing antioxidants, and as agents to help skin speed up healing.

Lastly, emu oil also contains a substance called Linoleic Acid. This special compound is what gives emu oil it's pain-reliving and anti-inflammatory agents, and enables it to be used for easing muscle and joint pain. For this reason, it's frequently used by sports teams and in fitness centers the world over. What's more is that is also aids in the formation of new cells. This gives emu oil the highly desirable property of being anti-aging and wrinkle-reducing! Basically, it is a miracle compound that aids in your overall appearance.

Too Much Sun?

We hope everyone is having a great weekend! We know that this was probably most folks last chance at sunshine and that a record number of people were flocking to the beach to bid farewell to summer. We have all been guilty of a little too much sun at times, so we are offering you some solutions on how to repair some of the damage you may have caused over the last few months.

1. Summer elements like salt water and chlorine can take a toll on your skin and leave your body dry and itchy, so cleanse in the shower with a hydrating body soap and finish off with a light lotion to lock in that moisture.

2.Many folks begin to see the signs of pigmentation, like sun spots, after their summer tans fade and especially on the neck and chest area. Attack these unsightly spots with a brightening cream rich in Vitamin C.

3. A dull, dry complexion can be a sure sign of a summer spent with no umbrella so scrub away that tired skin with a invigorating facial scrub that will leave your skin looking replenished.

Seasonal Skincare Tips

For most people, the first of September marks a new beginning: students head back to school, office drones bear adieu to summer Fridays and most everyone readies themselves for the change in season. But as we pack away our bathing suits and study the fall fashion trends, it is also important to understand that your skin will need a new wardrobe of products as well. The change in season between summer and fall is the most drastic on your skin, so we have compiled a suggestions of Autumn skincare adaptations everyone should consider.

Dehydration: During the colder months, we are often cuddled up in the warmth of our homes, while this is comforting on those colder days, it can also cause skin to rapidly loose its natural moisture. So a product that will rehydrate thirsty skin is vital.
~Recommended Product: Total Skin Revitalizer attracts moisture and binds it to the deepest cell layers.

Chapping: That sometimes wicked, unforgiving wind of the colder months can do a number on your face, leaving you with cracked, chapped skin. Add a soothing product to protect against those harsher weather conditions.
~Recommended Product: pHormula 3-9 lip balm heals your lips while protecting it from further damage.

Dryness: Scaly cold-weather skin is a pretty inevitable occurrence for most, and the majority except it by covering themselves up with layers of clothing. Adding an exfoliating product into your regime will help slough off those dead skin cells fast to leave you skin soft and supple.
~Recommended Product: C-Peel is a two-phase peel that polishes and smooths the complexion.

The one seasonal skincare change you shouldn't make? Stopping your sunscreen use! Just because you might not be able to see or feel the sun's rays, does not mean your skin can't still suffer the damages. Happy fall everyone!
