Ingredient Spotlight: Emu Oil

The emu is native to Australia

The benefits of Emu Oil have been known since the times of the Aborigines in Australia. They used it as bush medicine to treat a variety of conditions, such as sunburns, wounds, muscle pain, irritation, and arthritis. Today, emu oil is used as an ingredient in many cosmetics for the same reasons - Erno Laszlo uses it in our magical phormula 3-9 products. Studies, however, have uncovered many additional therapeutic uses for emu oil.

One of the main reasons that emu oil is so fantastically effective is that its chemical composition is very similar to that of human skin. This allows it to be easily absorbed through pores into the deepest layers of skin, ensuring that it will be able to nourish at every level.

Additionally, emu oil has been proven useful in fighting acne. It is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory, which means it will work to kill the bacteria that causes acne in the first place, and soothe to reduce the swelling it causes in turn. Emu Oil also contains naturally abundant levels of Vitamins A and E. These act both as free-radical fighting, toxin-removing antioxidants, and as agents to help skin speed up healing.

Lastly, emu oil also contains a substance called Linoleic Acid. This special compound is what gives emu oil it's pain-reliving and anti-inflammatory agents, and enables it to be used for easing muscle and joint pain. For this reason, it's frequently used by sports teams and in fitness centers the world over. What's more is that is also aids in the formation of new cells. This gives emu oil the highly desirable property of being anti-aging and wrinkle-reducing! Basically, it is a miracle compound that aids in your overall appearance.

Analyzing the Amazing Allantoin

The Comfrey Plant, a major source of allantoin

For quite some time, allantoin has been a staple in many of Erno Laszlo's most popular products including Timeless Skin and pHormula 3-9. So, we thought we'd share a bit about what it is, where it comes from, and how it benefits your skin.

Allantoin is a chemical compound naturally present in most mammals (excluding higher apes and humans), plants, and fish. It boasts moisturizing and karetolytic properties, meaning that it causes the water content in the extracellular matrix to increase while also increasing the skin's ability to exfoliate. The net effect is that the skin feels smooth, is able to hear more quickly, and moisture is bound to the skin much more effectively. Thus, Allantoin can be used for a host of skin conditions, including wounds, burns, and various scars. It is also included in various sunscreens, lip balms, and products designed to prevent skin irritation in general.

Since Allantoin is anti-irritant and smooths skin's surface, however, it has also been known to be used in products that are designed to maintain skin's overall health. Interestingly, it may be added to the formula of a product to offset harsher ingredients including soaps, detergents, alcohols, or acids which may dry out or irritate the skin. Additionally, it is also known to be found in lipsticks, toothpastes, and shampoos.

What Makes Spirulina So Powerful?

With the release of two new Laszlo Blue Firmarine products, you may well be wondering why Spirulina is such an effective part any skin care routine. The answer lies in the fact that it is a powerhouse nutrient that delivers firming benefits, as well as anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties for overall skin health. Some of the most important but rarely discussed nutrients Spirulina provides are Beta Carotene, GLA, and Protein.

Beta Carotene
The beta carotene that is contained in Spirulina is ten times more concentrated than it is in a carrot, which means that it can do wonders for your skin. This nutrient helps to block UVA radiation, which can damage your skin by causing aging, DNA damage, and an incresed risk of malignant melanomas. Furthermore, it encourages new skin growth, and helps to heal skin lesions caused by acne. Finally, as it is an antioxidant, it helps to protect your skin aganist free radicals, while fighting the bacteria that can cause acne in the first place.
Protein
Protein is not one specific substance, but rather tens of thousands of different compounds with unique combinations of its building blocks - amino acids. Collagen, the structural tissue that is responsible for keeping skin firm, is actually a type of fibrous protein. Spirulina itself is over 60% protein, and can help supplement the collagen in your skin and stimulate new growth. This helps your skin to stay firm and younger looking for quite a long time.
GLA
GLA, or Gamma-linolenic acid, has been known to help children with eczema, better skin conditions in women, and improve skin function in the elderly. In fact, in a German study, patients with red, irritated skin who were provided GLA were shown to have greatly improved in a span on 12 weeks. Furthermore, women with sensitive and irritiable skin who were provided GLA were shown to have vastly improved skin barrier function a mere six weeks in their studies. The improvements only continued throughout the final 18 weeks of the study.

And, of course, Laszlo Blue Firmarine products also contain Vitamin C and E providing long lasting antioxidant protection. Also, Glycerin, Soribtol and Palm Kernel to help hydration and retain moisture by binding water to the skin. Rest assured that with Laszlo Blue Firmarine and Spirulina Maxima, your skin will never feel softer or look younger.

An Erno Laszlo Testimonial!

We here at Erno Laszlo love it when we hear from fans of our line. It is what makes all of our hard work and dedication to providing nothing but the highest quality skin care products all worth it. Recently we were contacted by make up artist Diana Solomon. She has been using Erno Laszlo products to provide make up for everything from Saturday Night Live to the Today Show. One of Diana’s clients, the talented actor Rebecca Stuard loves the Erno Laszlo product line and wanted to share her feelings with us.

“I am inspired by the human condition, which for each of us encompasses a collection of our actions and deeds. What we choose to do with our lives can keep us young, or age us prematurely. I live each day making an active choice for the former. Fourteen years ago, I discovered Erno Lazlo, a collection of products that mirrors my philosophy on life. As an actress performing in musical theater—touring with Cabaret, Chicago, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum—and on television—appearing as a frequent background player on Saturday Night Live and as a regular with New York City’s ComedySportz, www.comedysportznewyork.com –my face reflects what I am feeling, inside and out.

My normal combination skin is what is called a “12:00” in Erno Lazlo. I wash with the sea mud soap daily, then use the water I lather with to do my thirty “splashes.” I follow religiously the full regimen of Light Controlling Lotion, Antioxidant Complex for Eyes, Antioxidant Moisture Complex SPF 15, Shake it normalizer, and pHelitone Eye Treatment. Nighttime is the time for my favorite, R.E.M. for eyes.

I want to live up to living young, and Erno Lazlo helps me make it happen, day by day.”

Rebecca and Diana also provided us with a few visuals as well as Diana’s beauty breakdown on how she is using Erno Laszlo products in her make up artistry.
