Adult Acne
Most of us accept acne as an inevitable part of adolescence. We suffer through the embarrassment and the overly dramatic teenage response to a pimple and our reward is supposed to be clean, problem free skin thereafter. But we all know this is not the case and adult acne, whether severe or moderate, plagues and bewilders many of us. So to help clarify, we have compiled some common breakout triggers, see if you fit into any of them to have a better understanding of how to treat adult acne.
Stress Monger - Ok, this is a hard one to avoid to be honest. Unless you have recently become independently wealthy and can finally retire to a beach chair on your private island, you are probably going to encounter some stressful moments. The key is how you prep your skin to deal with them. So if you know that one of those stress induced days is ahead of you, first off, relax! Wash your skin with an acne cleanser and give your yourself a mini face and temple massage. Rinse and follow with an acne treatment and allow yourself a few deep breaths before facing the world.
Chatty Cathy - Not only has the prevalence of cell phones meant that you have to hear every joe schmo on the street's most intimate details, it also means we spend more time with a bacteria covered instrument pressed to our face. If you are guilty of this or have a job that keeps you constantly on the phone, then you might notice some blackheads and whiteheads begin to appear on your chin and cheeks. Try to give your skin a chance to breath by either switching ears or holding the phone slightly away from your face - meanwhile treat those breakouts with a spot treatment to dry up blemishes.
Bronze Beauty - Are you still searching for that endless summer glow - well you should probably stop! But if all the warnings are not enough, here's another: baking in the sun may be the cause of your blemishes. A large amount of exposure to the sun actually begins to thicken your skin, causing pores to clog and breakouts to begin. Another element is that many SPF related products tend to make matters worse. So number one, get under an umbrella! And then look for an moisturizer for oily skin with SPF to protect yourself from the elements.

Chocolate and Your Skin
At this point, the rumor that eating chocolate somehow leads to bad skin has been pretty well put to rest but it is only recently that people have been claiming that it is actually good for your skin. More specifically focusing on the advantages of dark chocolate. Seeing as though trick or treating season is upon us, we thought we would share some benefits in the hopes that it will make us all feel a little less guilty about our sweet intake this month!
The most common assertion about dark chocolate's benefits is due to the high levels of antioxidants, which help protect the skin against free radicals, repair damage at the cellular level, as well as produce healthy, glowing skin. Additionally, because of the cocoa butter content, people are claiming that chocolate can help smooth and soften the facial skin - leaving behind a silky texture.
Some spas and beauty salons are going so far as to offer dark chocolate facials. While it is still questionable if the beauty benefits of chocolate can be absorbed topically - it certainly is an inviting idea!

Essential Fatty Acids, What Makes Them So Essential?
Essential fatty acids, to put it simply, are "good fats" that it is essential you replenish through means of a proper diet, as they are not produced by your body. They are responsible for regulating cell function in every organ of your body, and thus an EFA-deficiency can cause serious problems in any system. In terms of skin cell health specifically, essential fatty acids keep membranes healthy and able to retain water and nutrients, while allowing wastes to pass out. A diet low in EFAs will result in unstable cell membranes that are unable to retain their naturally buoyant shape, leading to saggy skin. Finally, consuming an appropriate amount of EFAs can keep skin full and flexible, minimizing the appearance of cellulite.
Aside from keeping skin looking young, essential fatty acids have also been shown to reduce acne flare-ups. This is due to the fact that EFAs, as mentioned, cause healthy cell transference, which helps to dissolve the fatty deposits that block pores and cause acne. Furthermore, they help to repair skin that's already been damaged by breakouts.
Essential Fatty Acids can be found in:
* Oily fatty fish such as tuna, salmon, mackerel and herring, cod and haddock
* Olive oil, canola oil, flaxseed oil, fish oil
* Some seeds, walnuts
* Leafy green vegetables such as broccoli, kale
Essential Fatty Acids can also benefit the skin when applied topically. Some Erno Laszlo products containing EFAs are: Timeless Skin and Transphuse Eye

Makeup Makeover
Dr. Laszlo once said, "Makeup for the face serves the same purpose as clothes serve for the body – it is necessary and it is pretty – but a woman must be beautiful without clothes, too."
Makeup has changed a lot since the times of Dr. Laszlo and now you can find makeup that is actually good for your skin, and works as another element of your skincare ritual. Erno Laszlo's Makeup keeps this in mind and rather than cover up what Dr. Laszlo tried so hard to attain for his clients (i.e. the skin you were born to have),it compliments and continues the work of your ritual products. This means makeup formulated to balance, heal and highlight your skin's natural beauty.

Pretty as a Pumpkin
As we enter October, it officially starts the Halloween season, and if there ever was a fruit mascot for this spooky holiday, it would be the pumpkin. This seasonal gourd begins to pop up everywhere, but it is not only for sweet treats and carving activities, pumpkin is actually great for your skin! Read below to learn what skin healing properties a pumpkin possesses:
ANTI-AGING
Pumpkins are a great source of potassium, a mineral that helps with new cell growth, and can help rejuvenate a tired complexion.
BLEMISH CONTROL
Pumpkins are loaded with Zinc, which helps heal acne blemishes, reduce inflammation, and aids in regulating the skin’s oil gland activity.
BRIGHTNESS
Rich in Beta-carotene, pumpkins help to enhance the skin by adding a glowing hint of color that brightens and evens out skin tone.

Cures for Dehyrated Skin
Dehydrated skin is a common problem for many people but with plenty of water and the right skin care regiment, it does not have to be permanent. Plus, fighting this lack of moisture also means fighting the signs of aging since dehydration causes skin to look dull and dry, in turn making making fine lines and wrinkles more noticeable.
Start your regiment with a moisture rich cleanser, one that purifies skin without disrupting the natural balance of oils responsible for hydration. Our Active pHelityl Two-in-One Cleanser contains antioxidant green tea and soothing cucumber.
Next make sure you are applying a daily dose of SPF protection, as sun exposure can contribute to dryness and loss of elasticity. An easy reminder is to use our Tinted Treatment SPF 15 - a hydrating, sheer color that protects against sun damage.
Add that extra boost of hydration at night, with a hydrating serum created specifically for dryness. Our Total Skin Revitalizer soothes and instantly leaves a moisturized feeling on your skin.
Lastly pamper yourself with an ultra rich moisture mask once a week, that quenches thirsty skin and allows you to feel rested and relaxed. Our Hydra-Therapy Skin Vitality Treatment is all you need to to put the last drops of moisture back into your skin.
